“This movie wasn’t supposed to come out.” That’s what was said today at San Diego Comic-Con during the panel for “Coyote vs. Acme,” the long-buried Looney Tunes movie that Warner Bros. famously shelved in 2023 as part of a tax write-off.
Well, now it is coming out. August 28, 2026. Globally. That’s the date that was announced at Comic-Con. We’ll have to wait another year before we can find out what all the big fuss was about.
Actor Will Forte took the stage with gleeful disbelief, confirming the worldwide release date for the film—now officially back on the calendar thanks to indie distributor Ketchup Entertainment.
The film, which centers on Wile E. Coyote suing the Acme Corporation after years of failed contraptions and personal injury, was originally shelved by Warner Bros. despite a reported $70M budget and a completed cut that had tested strongly with audiences.
Ketchup stepped in with a $50M deal to acquire global rights, marking the second time the upstart distributor has salvaged a discarded WB project. Their last rescue effort, “The Day the Earth Blew Up,” grossed $15M worldwide.
Forte credited fans with keeping the buzz alive and ultimately reviving the project. “The only reason this is happening is because people wouldn’t shut up about it,” he said, expressing genuine gratitude for the film’s unexpected second life.
Either way, we’ll soon find out what all the fuss was about — the film, starring Forte and John Cena, will be released thirteen months from now.
