As previously reported, “Clayface” is being rewritten from scratch. Mike Flanagan wrote a draft, and it clearly wasn’t what DCU bosses James Gunn and Peter Safran were looking for. It wouldn’t shock me if Flanagan doesn’t get a writing credit on this one as this new writer was seemingly tasked to produce a “page 1” rewrite.
Now, here’s The Wrap reporting that Hossein Amini, the screenwriter acclaimed for his work on 2011’s “Drive,” has been brought on to rewrite the script for “Clayface” at DC Studios. Amini’s other credits include “The Wings of the Dove” (good), “The Four Feathers” (meh), and “The Snowman” (yikes).
Flanagan’s script, described as a Hollywood horror story, followed a B-movie actor who injects himself with a substance to keep himself relevant — didn’t Coralie Fargeat already make this film? The budget for “Clayface” is a very modest $40M.
James Watkins, known for directing the recent remake of the Danish thriller “Speak No Evil” for Universal, is set to helm the film, which is supposed to start production in October. However, despite the numerous projects Gunn has announced for his DCU, you can’t really count on anything being locked in until it starts production.
