Just a brief update on Bong Joon-ho’s “Mickey 17” which earned $2.5M in Thursday previews. Our original $18M opening weekend projection still stands. Not that great, but we already knew this film had a steep hill to climb at the box office.
However, what’s most worrisome is the film’s tepid worldwide tally this weekend which might only reach the $45m mark — the budget was said to be anywhere between $120M-$150M. Audience scores also don’t seem to be so enthusiastic for this one.
I’ll have my own thoughts about “Mickey 17” tomorrow. In fact, let’s also open a thread for readers to chime in as well. This movie is a big deal given that it’s Bong’s follow-up to his Oscar and Cannes winning “Parasite,” which was released almost six years ago.
