Coming off “Longlegs” and “The Monkey,” not to mention “Keeper,” set for fall release, director Osgood Perkins has an idea for a Star Wars movie that needs to be immediately pitched to LucasFilm.
Speaking during a Reddit AMA, Perkins said he wants the budget to turn his dream project into a reality, a film tackling “the collected dreams and nightmares of Darth Vader told as short stories.”
Osgood’s pitch is a horror-themed dive into Vader’s psyche. This could be genuinely terrifying. It’s definitely better than most, if not all, of the ideas concocted by Kathleen Kennedy these last 10 years.
Given the description, Perkins’ idea seems to involve a collection of short stories, five or six Vader nightmares, which could result in a 2+ hour anthology, Rated R, of course.
The film would not involve Neon, who have snatched up Perkins as their go-to low budget horror factory man, but rather a short stint over at Disney and LucasFilm. It should be noted that Kathleen Kennedy has yet to greenlight an R-rated Star Wars movie since her tenure began as LucasFilm head honcho began in 2012.
At this point, the Star Wars brand is in the dumps, and a Darth Vader solo movie has yet to be made. It’s inevitably going to happen, right? Forget Luke or Han or Leia, it’s Vader that’s the most iconic Star Wars character.
