Jeremy Allen White Declines Offer to Star in ‘Sgt. Rock'

February 26, 2025 Jordan Ruimy

Here’s a brief update on Luca Guadagnino’s “Sgt. Rock.” Jeremy Allen White has declined the offer to star in the DCU movie (via The InSneider), and no replacements have been put forward as of now.

It shouldn’t come as much of a surprise that White turned this one down. He had previousy shown real disdain for actors who star in comic book movies (“I am confused by how superhero films became the ‘pinnacle of an actor’s career”). Fair enough. White, 34, is a promising young actor who doesn’t want to get bogged down by IP.

So far, White’s most notable turns were in TV shows “The Bear,” and “Shameless.” However, he recently branched out into cinema with a key role in Sean Durkin’s “The Iron Claw.” He will next be seen portraying Bruce Springsteen in Scott Cooper’s “Deliver Me From Nowhere” — set for 2025 release.

Meanwhile, Guadagnino is very serious about making “Sgt. Rock.” He’s hired DP Sayombhu Mukdeeprom to lens the film. Justin Kuritzkes (“Queer” and “Challengers”) wrote the screenplay. A summer shoot is being eyed on the film, but if there’s no lead actor by then, we might be looking at a delay in production.
