Neon really likes Osgood Perkins. They’ve hopped onboard his last three films, including “The Monkey,” his over the top adaptation of Stephen King’s short story.
If you’ve seen “The Monkey” then you very well know it’s not a film that should be taken too seriously; over the top, bloody, gory and borderline comical.
A first look at Perkins’ next film, “Keeper,” is attached to “The Monkey.” There’s even a release date stamped to the teaser: October 3, 2025. So, yes, we’re getting two Oz Perkins movies this year — anybody getting sick of this guy yet?
“Keeper,” starring Tatiana Maslany and Rossif Sutherland, follows a couple as they escape for a romantic anniversary weekend at a secluded cabin only to be haunted by the presence of an unspeakable evil that unveils the cabin’s horrifying secrets.
During last year’s WGA strikes, Perkins didn’t want to sit around and do nothing, so he hired a non-WGA writer (Nick Lepard) to quickly pen a screenplay for him. The shoot lasted three weeks and wrapped in August 2024. The budget on “Keeper” is said to be under $8M.
Perkins is coming off “Longlegs,” and the just-released “The Monkey,” both of which had below $10M budgets. “The Monkey” is set to have an opening weekend of around $14M. It should also be noted that all three of these Perkins-directed films are distributed by Neon.
Perkins, the eldest son of ‘Psycho’ himself, Anthony Perkins, broke out with his 2015 indie debut “The Blackcoat’s Daughter” and 2020’s “Gretel & Hansel.”
