In December, I exclusively reported that Martin McDonagh’s next film would be “Wild Horse Nine,” which was set up at Searchlight. The film had Sam Rockwell attached to star. A 2025 shoot was being prepped up for this one. Then, a few months later, John Malkovich, Mark Ruffalo and Parker Posey were added to the cast.
I can now report that musician-actor Tom Waits has joined the ensemble. Waits has been a mainstay in Jim Jarmusch’s films, having appeared in five of them. He was recently seen in Joel & Ethan Coen’s “The Ballad of Buster Scruggs,” and Paul Thomas Anderson’s “Licorice Pizza.” He also starred in McDonagh’s “Seven Psychopaths.”
Production on “Wild Horse Nine” is set begin in March 2025. Some of the locations will include filming in Utah and also, more intriguingly, Easter Island, a “protected Chilean wildlife area known for its unrivalled cultural landscape.”; it’s known as the most remote inhabited island on Earth. No plot details have surfaced just yet.
McDonagh is coming off ‘Banshees of Inisherin’ which received nine Oscar noms, including Best Picture, Best Director and Best Actor. His other works include “In Bruges,” and “Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri.”
