The Hot Mic’s Jeff Sneider is reporting that Jason Momoa will return as Duncan Idaho in Denis Villeneuve’s “Dune: Messiah.” This shouldn’t come as much of a surprise since, in Frank Herbert’s novel, Duncan is supposed to be resurrected as a ghola, which are essentially clones made from genetic material.
In “Dune Messiah,” Paul Atreides (Timothee Chalamet) rules as Emperor but is trapped by the religious fervor surrounding him and the jihad waged in his name. A secret conspiracy, involving the Bene Gesserit, Tleilaxu, and Spacing Guild, seeks to overthrow him by introducing a ghola of his old friend Duncan Idaho.
Momoa joins a cast that will likely include Timothee Chalamet, Zendaya, Florence Pugh, Anya Taylor-Joy, Javier Bardem, and Charlotte Rampling. Greig Fraser, who lensed the first two ‘Dune’ movies, will be replaced by Linus Sandgren (“La La Land”). Hans Zimmer is expected to score the film.
‘Messiah’ is expected to shoot this summer, and most likely set for December 2026 release. It’ll be the final ‘Dune’ film helmed by Villeneuve, although inevitable rumors have surfaced about a potential fourth film being in the works over at Warner Bros.
