László Nemes's Next Film is A Biopic of French Resistant Jean Moulin

February 24, 2025 Jordan Ruimy

If László Nemes waited seven years before directing “Orphan,” which premieres at either Venice or Cannes later this year, then he won’t be waiting that long to helm his next film. It’s already been set up.

French producer Alain Goldman is telling Ecran Total that he’s producing a Nemes-directed biopic about famous french resistant, and president of the council of the French Resistance, Jean Moulin. Although not a familiar name to U.S. audiences, Moulin is well-known in France.

Moulin will be played by French actor Gilles Lellouche, director of "Beating Hearts," which screened last year in Cannes competition. Olivier Demangel (La Vie en Grand), a novelist and screenwriter, will pen the screenplay.

As mentioned, Nemes is about to premiere “Orphan” later this year. His directorial debut, 2015’s “Son of Saul,” remains one of the best first films of the last 30 years. Cannes was rumored to have rejected “Sunset” in 2018, but maybe this time around he’ll be back on the Croisette with “Orphan.”
