Spike Lee went on his Instagram to tout about how Martin Scorsese saw his upcoming film, “Highest 2 Lowest,” and “loved” it. As you’ll read below, he can’t seem to contain himself, and his post, filled caps locks and slang, is total gushing:
I Just Left The Office Of The GREAT MASTER FILMMAKER MARTIN SCORSESE. I Had The HONOR And PLEASURE Of Screening Da New Spike Lee Joint-HIGHEST 2 LOWEST For My Main MAN. Marty LO💜ED IT. He Gushed About,Denzel’s Magnificent Acting,Matty Libatique’s ,Cinematography,Barry Brown’s Editing And My Direction. Marty Was So Happy For Me. We Have History,All The Way Back To When I Was At NYU GRAD FILM SCHOOL. The Poster Behind Us Is JOE’S BED-STUY BARBERSHOP-WE CUT HEADS,My Thesis Film Which Won A Student Academy Award. I Didn’t Even Know He Had It. Great Day Now If DA NEW YORK KNICKS Beat The Denver Nuggets U Can’t Tell Me SHIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!🤓
I love many of Lee’s works, especially “Do The Right Thing,” “Malcolm X,” and “The 25th Hour,” but did we really expect Marty to give him anything but respectful thoughts about his latest film?
“Highest 2 Lowest,” which is probably going to premiere at the Cannes Film Festival, is set to be released in the summer. Denzel Washington and A$AP Rocky star in the film, which is being distributed by A24, and has been called a “reinterpretation” of Akira Kurosawa’s “High & Low.” Lee hired Alan Fox and Lee to write the screenplay.
In the Kurosawa film, the central character is a shoe businessman. In Lee’s interpretation, he’s a New York record executive. Lee’s film follows Denzel’s executive as he becomes a victim of extortion when his chauffeur’s son is kidnapped by mistake and held for ransom.
