Atom Egoyan's ‘Seven Veils' FINALLY Picked Up For U.S. Release

January 21, 2025 Jordan Ruimy

Two years after its TIFF world premiere, Atom Egoyan’s “Seven Veils” has finally been picked up for theatrical distribution. XYZ and Variance Films are teaming up to release the film on March 7. A trailer has also been unveiled.

The film tackles Amanda Seyfried’s Jeanine, a theater director who re-enters the opera world after several years away to stage her former mentor's most famous work. Haunted by dark and disturbing memories from her past, the repressed trauma causes her personal and professional lives to unravel.

“Seven Veils” was met with decent reviews at TIFF, but that was in 2023, and it’s quite clear Egoyan isn’t the sellable name he used to be. The man hasn’t directed a strong film since the late ‘90s. Ok, fine, “Chloe” (2009) and “Remember” (2015) weren’t half-bad, but other than that, he’s been in a major three-decade slump.

The Canadian-born Egoyan, who used to be regularly invited to Cannes, hit an artistic peak in the ‘90s with three consecutive great films: “Calendar,” “Exotica,” and “The Sweet Hereafter.”
