Martin Scorsese has released his own tribute about David Lynch's death, calling it "a sad day for moviemakers and movie lovers". In his statement, Scorsese reflected upon Lynch's status as a “visionary” artist, and one that we’re lucky to have been alive to witness:
What Lynch’s passing should have people realizing is that we’re sort of going through the end of an era, one in which many of the greatest filmmakers are at the twilight of their careers. This current time period shouldn’t be taken for granted, and we should embrace every new film we get from old masters like Scorsese, Miyazaki, Eastwood, Cronenberg, Coppola, De Palma.
