Coming off a rather weak year in television, people are hungry for a great show, and Ben Stiller seems to have delivered one with the second season Apple TV+’s “Severance.”
With 47 reviews counted, the second season has pulled in a 94% and stunning 9/10 average rating on Rotten Tomatoes. The Metacritic score is a stellar 85/100 from 20 reviews. In both cases, these averages are higher than the first season which was already acclaimed.
While speaking to Collider, Stiller now confirms he’s begun work on the third season. What's more, it sounds like the sci-fi series won't be disappearing for a while.
It should go as long as the story goes, and that's something we have an idea of, and we're working towards as we're starting up our season 3 work.
In 2022, Stiller triumphed with his dystopian WTF-Did-I-Just-Watch sci-fi office drama. The atmosphere of minimalist world-building was incredibly realized. However, “Severance” left us with more questions than answers, but one need not worry as the second season will officially be released on January 17 via Apple TV+.
The show follows Mark S. (Adam Scott), an employee of the fictional corporation Lumon Industries who agrees to a "severance" program in which his non-work memories are separated from his work memories. The events that followed were indescribable in nature — asking just how much of ourselves should we actually give in to our work.
The series, created by Dan Erickson and directed by Stiller, stars Adam Scott, Zach Cherry, Britt Lower, Tramell Tillman, Jen Tullock, Dichen Lachman, Michael Chernus, John Turturro, Christopher Walken, and Patricia Arquette.
There’s been some reporting on how this second season of the show wildly went over budget. The numbers that have circulated claim that it was a $200M shoot. That’s a lot for a show that mostly takes place in an office building.
