In the latest Gold Derby podcast, hosts Joyce Eng and Christopher Rosen admit to having seen Steve McQueen’s “Blitz, which is slowly screening for some press in NYC, ahead of its New York Film Festival premiere.
They confirm that Saoirse Ronan gives a supporting turn in “Blitz” and emphasize it’s not in any way shape or form a lead performance — she’s firmly supporting. Elliott Heffernan, who plays the 9-year-old boy, is the true lead of the film. Both pundits are currently not predicting Ronan for a nomination (according to their latest updates on Gold Derby).
Rosen and Eng, who claim that the trailer is very indicative of how the film looks and feels, have both lowered “Blitz” in their Best Picture predictions — it’s now #9 in their lists. Neither of them has the film competing in the directing and acting categories.
“Blitz” skipped Telluride, Venice and Toronto. Instead, it’s set to have its world premiere at the 68th BFI London Film Festival on October 9. The film will release in select cinemas on November 1. It’s going to be streaming, on Apple TV+, starting November 22, just three weeks after its theatrical launch.
