Maika Monroe (“Longlegs,” “It Follows”) has signed on to 20th Century Studios’ remake of “The Hand That Rocks the Cradle.” Michelle Garza Cervera is set to direct the film. The screenplay was written by Micah Bloomberg
The late great Curtis Hanson directed the 1992 thriller. Rebecca De Mornay starred as the nanny from hell, distraught over losing her own baby, and immersing herself into a family as their nanny, with the ultimate goal of taking the kids and the husband for herself.
Hollywood’s obsession in remaking older films further proves how creatively bankrupt the system is. There’s no room for new ideas. Hanson’s film was a campy treat, and not any kind of statement to be taken too seriously. Now I’m just waiting for the “Basic Instinct” remake starring Sydney Sweeney and Jacob Elordi.
