Here’s TheInSneider reporting that ‘Knives Out 3’ reportedly cost 5x more than the original to produce. That’s a lot of money for a streaming platform that, very recently, was said to start cutting back on its spending.
“Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery” has a budget of $210M. Is this going to be the most expensive whodunit ever produced? The cast assembled this time around includes Daniel Craig, Jeremy Renner, Josh Brolin, Glenn Close, Josh O’Connor, Cailee Spaeny, Andrew Scott, Kerry Washington, and more.
We recently got our first look at Daniel Craig’s Benoit Blanc — now with long hair — in a black and white image, sporting his usual snazzy suit. A new look for the main character of a franchise that keeps trying to reinvent itself with each passing film.
No plot details have been revealed for this third ‘Knives Out’ installment and we likely won’t be getting much until its release, which is currently unknown. I would imagine, much like the first two instalments, it will have its world premiere at TIFF in fall 2025.
In March 2021, Netflix obtained the rights for two ‘Knives Out’ sequels and they paid the hefty sum of $450 million to get it; 2022’s ‘Glass Onion’ was the first one, this next film will be the final one, unless Netflix decides to extend Johnson’s contract further, which wouldn’t surprise me — these films are very popular.
The last instalment, 2022’s “Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery,” was the first ‘Knives Out’ film to be distributed by Netflix. It had a splashy TIFF world premiere, garnered strong reviews and was the 10th most listed film on 2022 critics ten best lists, appearing in over 190 of them.
