The first “Crawl” (2019) was a fine-as-it-goes B-movie, set in New Orleans, about a woman trapped in a flooding house filled with alligators. It became a sleeper hit, grossing $90M on a $14M.
As with all profitable movies, Hollywood has called for a sequel. “Crawl 2” has been greenlit by Paramount; original filmmaker Alexandre Aje will be back. A fall shoot is being eyed for the sequel which takes place in New York City.
“Crawl 2” will feature a new cast. Original writers Michael and Shawn Rasmussen are not coming back for this one. Instead, were getting Andrew Deutschman and Jason Pagan (“Paranormal Activity: The Ghost Dimension”). No additional plot details were revealed.
Back in 2021, Aja had hinted about a sequel happening and that he would be straying far away from the original film by having it be “another story altogether”. I guess setting the sequel in NYC where, as far as I can tell, there are no alligators present in the waters, is certainly a twist that I didn’t see coming.
