“The Day the Earth Blew Up” is the first proper Looney Tunes movie in years, and Warner Bros. wants nothing to do with. The studio has brokered a deal with Ketchup Entertainment (them again!) to distribute the film in theaters. The film will be released theatrically nationwide; a date has yet to be confirmed.
Directed by Pete Browngardt, the sci-fi comedy adventure follows the adventures of Daffy Duck and Porky Pig as they uncover a sinister alien invasion plot while working at the local bubble gum factory.
The film, originally greenlit for HBO Max in 2021, was supposed to be part of the tax write-offs at Warner Bros, much like “Coyote v Acme” and “Batgirl”, but ended up having its world premiere at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival in June where it was met with very positive reactions.
The film spurred enthusiastic laughter throughout the screening, with some standout moments for the crowd including scenes that focused on the lead duo’s upbringing and their attempts to find a job.
This is all great news for the film, and I’m looking forward to seeing it, but now we need an update on “Coyote v Acme.” I have this sneaking suspicion that it’s already been written off and destroyed by Warners.
