Here comes intel that Tim Miller reshot around 60% of “Borderlands,” which is supposed to have been directed by Eli Roth. The film cost around $120M to produce and is set to open with around $15M this weekend.
A producer told me yesterday that Lionsgate should have pulled a “Batgirl” and done a tax writeoff on “Borderlands,” but I don’t wish that on any filmmaker or actor. However, rumor is that original screenwriter Craig Mazin decided to pull his writing credit. So, there’s definitely some “Borderlands” creatives who want nothing to do with this film.
I always say to take early social media reactions with a grain of salt — films always get overhyped by fanboys before critics’ reviews get published. Not with “Borderlands.” The film is universally getting slammed as a “disaster,” “unwatchable,” “an abomination,” “baffling,” etc.
