Apparently, this upcoming animated film is a big deal.
First announced in June ‘21, “The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim” is a rarity: a U.S. anime feature from a major studio. The long-anticipated trailer has just been released. Tolkien fanatics, rejoice!
New Line Cinema and Warner Bros. Animation are distributing this much-delayed epic, which was originally supposed to get released in April ‘24.
The trailer says the film comes to us from "legendary director Kenji Kamiyama.” I might not be the most well-versed anime fan, but does Kamiyama actually deserve to be described with the L-word? Kamiyama’s best-known works are “Napping Princess,” “Blade Runner: Black Lotus.”
Kamiyama is joined by the screenwriting team of Phoebe Gittins and Arty Papageorgiou. ‘War of Rohirrim’ takes place 200 years before Peter Jackson’s “LOTR” trilogy and tells the story of Helm Hammerhand, king of Rohan, who defends his kingdom against the Dunlendings in the epic battle at Hornburg (aka Helm’s Deep).
Warner Bros Pictures will release ‘The Lord of the Rings: War of Rohirrim’ in theaters nationwide on December 12.
