We can all breathe a sigh of relief. During a recent AMA, Ti West put the kibosh on his original plan to expand the ‘X’ trilogy. He’s confirmed that “MaXXXine” was indeed the last film and that he is “done” with the franchise.
Back in May, West was teasing a possible idea that he had for a fourth film in the series. He stated that more than a month before the release of “MaXXXine”. The film, starring Mia Goth, wound up getting a lukewarm response from critics and audiences.
West should stick to non-franchise stuff. I liked “The House of the Devil,” and “In A Valley of Violence.” The 43-year-old filmmaker has talent. Much like Edgar Wright, he just needs to grow up a little bit, and make something a little more serious, less steeped in genre tropes. We’ll see if that ever happens.
Variety’s Owen Gleiberman shared similar thoughts, claiming West to be a “good filmmaker” who needs to stop “reconfiguring trash.” He needs to try embedding A-ideas in an A-movie. Paul Schrader shared the same sentiments, saying that despite West being a “talented” and “imaginative” filmmaker, he “limited” his creativity by pursuing “subgenre” fare.
