Joachim Trier has started production on his next film, “Sentimental Value.” a family drama set in Oslo and co-written with Eskil Vogt. Shooting is expected to take place in Oslo and Paris.
Renate Reinsve is back to play the lead role in Trier’s film, she will be joined by Stellan Skarsgård, Elle Fanning and Inga Ibsdotter Lilleaas (via Deadline).
“Sentimental Value” is being described as “an intimate, poignant and often funny exploration of family, memories, and the reconciliatory power of art.” Fanning will portray an American movie star who comes to Oslo. Here’s the brief synopsis available:
“Sentimental Value” is a portrait of a family in Oslo, the house they’ve lived in for generations, and of how the past has a way of resurfacing in unexpected ways.
Trier has become a hot commodity ever since his acclaimed “The Worst Person in the World.” The film premiered in competition at the 2021 Cannes Film Festival, with Reinsve winning the Best Actress award. It also garnered two Oscar nominations for Best International Feature Film and Best Original Screenplay.
This is set to be Trier’s sixth feature film after ‘Worst Person,’ “Oslo August 31st,” “Louder Than Bombs,” “Thelma” and “Reprise.” Maria Ekerhovd of Mer Film and Andrea Berentsen Ottmar of Eye Eye Pictures will produce.
As the Deadline article points out, “Sentimental Value” is practically a lock for competition at next year’s Cannes Film Festival. Speaking of, the 78th edition of Cannes is shaping up quite nicely with many A-list directors expected to attend.
