We’re not entirely sure if “Deadpool & Wolverine” will remain #1 at the box-office this weekend, but it’s going to be a very tight race. Blake Lively’s “It Ends With Us” took in around $16M on Friday and is aiming for a $50M opening.
Whereas, “Deadpool & Wolverine” grossed around the same amount, maybe a little more, and should be ending its third weekend with a 3-day tally in the $50M-$55M range. It’s also set to hit the $1B worldwide mark by Sunday. Incredible numbers for an R-rated movie.
Meanwhile, Eli Roth/Tim Miller’s “Borderlands” is posting terrible numbers. The film cost $120M to produce, earned a horrendous D+ on CinemaScore and is looking at an opening 3-day total of $9M. This is the worst-case scenario possible for Lionsgate who stand to lose hundreds of millions of dollars on this movie.
It not going to get any better for Lionsgate. Up next for the studio is their much-ridiculed remake of “The Crow,” which is set to hit theaters on August 23. At least that one only carries a budget of around $50M.
