The poster for Ridley Scott’s “Gladiator II” is now online — you can see it below. Last week, a handful of first images were unveiled for the film, via Vanity Fair.
A trailer will be released tomorrow morning. The top billed names on the poster are, as suspected, Paul Mescal, Pedro Pascal, Connie Nielsen and Denzel Washington. The cut that was test screened in April had a runtime of 2 hours 40 minutes.
Denzel elevates practically any film he’s in. I suspect he’ll do the same here. He plays a former slave turned power broke in “Gladiator II.” However, can Mescal actually carry this massive film? It’ll be the biggest test of his young career.
A few months ago, a THR report stated that Scott’s sequel had its budget “balloon” from $165 million to a whopping $310 million. The piece went on to describe Paramount execs as feeling “terribly vexed” by the whole ordeal, but relieved once they saw footage of the film which “blew them away. There’s a lot riding on this film.
A few months ago, at CinemaCon, Scott, appearing via video, introduced an unfinished trailer to the crowd. He also said the sequel was “more extraordinary” than the first one. Once people finally laid their eyes on the footage, the praise was universal. We’ll get to finally see this trailer tomorrow.
“Gladiator 2” is currently scheduled for a November 22, 2024 release.
