An update regarding Todd Haynes’ next film, a detective noir starring Joaquin Phoenix. It’s set to start production next week and has added a very interesting cinematographer.
Maryse Alberti, 70, will DP Haynes’ still-untitled film. She is set to reteam with Haynes for the first time since the 1998 cult classic “Velvet Goldmine.” Alberti also lensed Haynes’ 1991 gem “Poison.” Her other credits include “The Wrestler,” “Happiness” and “Creed.”
Just like with last year’s “May December,” Haynes longtime cinematographer, cinematographer Edward Lachman, will again not be taking part in this latest project — he had to bow out of that project after he broke his hip.
Haynes/Phoenix’s noir, co-written by Jon Raymond, is set in ‘30s L.A. and Mexico. It’s been described by Haynes as a “button pusher” that could warrant an NC-17 rating. A Cannes 2025 premiere is no doubt being eyed for the film.
