‘Despicable Me 4’ Speeds Off To $28M Wednesday, $120M 5-Day Opening

July 4, 2024 Jordan Ruimy

No surprise, “Despicable Me 4” is crushing it at the box-office. The Illumination/Universal animated film grossed $28 million on Wednesday. It’s set for a whopping 5-day $120 million opening by Sunday. The Friday-Sunday take is estimated to be $70M.

This is a critic proof movie. It doesn’t matter that “Despicable Me 4” is 54% Rotten. This is a multibillion-dollar grossing franchise that banks on kids showing up with their parents to see it. 2015’s “Minions” racked up $1.1B at the worldwide box-office, and although this latest instalment might not attain those numbers, it will likely come close.

“Despicable Me 4” will dethrone “Inside Out 2’s” 3-week reign at the box-office which had a $7.5M Wednesday and is set to have a 5-day $50M weekend. It should be able to hit the $550M domestic mark by Sunday.
