San Sebastián Competition Includes Leigh, Berger, Oppenheimer, Diwan and Serra

July 30, 2024 Jordan Ruimy

The San Sebastián Film Festival has announced its competition lineup, once again filled with high-profile filmmakers who will compete for the Golden Shell in this 72nd edition of the festival, to take place from 20 to 28 September.

There’s a lot of Cannes and Venice rejects here. This, of course, does not mean that quality will be low, but it’s something that should be mentioned.

The opening film, Audrey Diwan's “Emmanuelle,” will be joined in competition by the likes of Joshua Oppenheimer’s “The End,” Mike Leigh’s “Hard Truths,” Costa Gavras’ “The Last Breath,” Edward Berger’s “Conclave,” Albert Serra’s “Afternoons of Solitude,” and Gia Coppola’s “The Last Showgirl.”

El lugar de la otra - Maite Alberdi
Conclave - Edward Berger
I am Nevenka - Iciar Bollain
On Falling - Laura Carreira
The Last Showgirl - Gia Coppola
The Last Breath - Costa-Gavras
Bound in Heaven - Xin Huo
Serpent’s Path - Kiyoshi Kurosawa
Hard Truths - Mike Leigh
El hombre que amaba los platos voladores - Diego Lerman
The End - Joshua Oppenheimer
When Fall Is Coming - François Ozon
The Wailing - Pedro Martín-Calero
Glimmers - Pilar Palomero
Afternoons of Solitude - Albert Serra
