There’s been a major marketing push when it comes to Ridley Scott’s “Gladiator II,” and although there was some backlash to the recently released trailer, it did still garner over 16 million views in just two weeks on YouTube.
Now, Scott, who has never shied away from big scale filmmaking, says that everything he’s done pales in comparison to “Gladiator II.” Speaking to Empire, Scott claims that his anticipated sequel opens with the biggest action sequence of his career. And that’s saying something.
We begin the film with probably the biggest action sequence I’ve ever done. Probably bigger than anything in ‘Napoleon.
Now, Scott doesn’t give specifics, but I’m sure he isn’t joking. The man is turning 87 in November, and he’s done practically everything he needs to do in his career, except win an Oscar. Last year, he told The New Yorker: “You know, I haven’t gotten an Oscar yet. And, if I ever get one, I’ll say, ‘About feckin’ time!”
For the time being, Scott has “Gladiator II,” which is indeed being Oscar-buzzed, starring Paul Mescal, Pedro Pascal and Denzel Washington. We’ll see how the reception turns out when it gets released on November 22.
