A wild Saturday. What can I say. Movies are an afterthought at the moment.
With that said, “Longlegs” is very much playing in theaters and a big chunk of our readers did go and see it this weekend. What did you think? My verdict: Good, not great.
Last Thursday, Neon told me the budget for “Longlegs” was “under $10M” but didn’t specify the exact amount. You have some saying that it might have only cost $3M to produce, which is an insanely low amount for a film that made $3.5M in Thursday previews alone.
I’ve contacted Neon for confirmation on the $3M figure and will update this post when/if I get an answer. Regardless, the immense commercial success of the film — $23M opening weekend— should wake up Hollywood studios to the fact that audiences still crave non-IP content. Will they actually listen to the call? Doubt it.
