$875K previews on a $100M budget is just flat out disastrous, and that’s exactly what Greg Berlanti’s “Fly Me to the Moon” grossed on Thursday.
The Apple-produced period romcom, starring Scarlett Johansson and Channing Tatum, is playing in 3300 locations this weekend, but we’ve barely seen any ads for it — many didn’t know the film even existed until very recently.
No wonder Apple TV recently fired their head of marketing. The streamer is a total mess when it comes to their theatrical runs. They can’t seem to catch a break, and already had “Argylle” bombing hard earlier in the year.
Although reviews have been mixed, at least the highbrow folks over at Cahiers du Cinema seem to love the film. They gave it a rave review on Wednesday and praised it as “a film that defends authenticity and idealism in an age of A.I. generated content.”
