Last week, inside tracking numbers had “Bad Boys: Ride or Die” potentially opening in the $60M range. Also, according to a survey, it was the movie for which general U.S. audiences were most aware of, besting any other summer movie, including “Deadpool 3.”
Deadline is now sounding the alarm that tickets are not selling as well as they thought for this latest ‘Bad Boys’ flick. One look at local AMC/Regal seating charts and you might notice that there aren’t a lot of tickets sold for the movie.
While exhibition really likes Sony’s Bad Boys: Ride or Die there’s concern that the sluggish marketplace will take the pic’s opening into the $30M range […] The movie’s initial $50M was based on presales, however tracking has adjusted their numbers in recent days.
“Bad Boys: Ride or Die” is finally being screened for critics this evening. I wouldn’t bet on great reviews, but crazier things have happened — I’m reluctantly attending. A $30M opening would be catastrophic for the film which carries a $100M budget, and decent reviews certainly wouldn’t hurt in giving its weekend numbers a slight boost.
It’s no big secret that this movie summer has delivered some truly abysmal numbers at the box office. Practically every film released has failed to meet projected expectations. What Hollywood desperately needs right now is a hit, and “Deadpool 3” isn’t opening until July 26.
