Is it or is it not Vineland? That’s what most fans are wondering about Paul Thomas Anderson’s latest. Now, an online source alleges that PTA’s latest has acquired the rights to Thomas Pynchon’s 1990 novel. The film, currently going by BC Project, and also known as “Desert Highway,” is alleged to contain elements of the novel, but is not a 1:1 adaptation.
An in-the-know journalist had previously told me that Anderson’s latest was a semi reworking of “Vineland,” based in an alternate reality America. Pynchon’s novel was set during the Reagan-era, and this one would be set in the Trump era although not explicitly referencing the 45th President.
While we’re at it, I’m also hearing that the full cast of the film has not been announced, and there are a few more “surprises” left to be revealed in terms of casting. BC Project/Desert Highway is supposed to continue shooting throughout the summer, and possibly leaking into the fall (September/October).
SIDE NOTE: I’ve been getting many emails about this, but should I ban “Been You” from any PTA-related discussions? I’m not ready to do it unless it’s become a major crutch for a majority visiting the site. The BLOCK button is just a click away.
