“Inside Out 2” has cast a wondrous spell on movie audiences. There’s no other way to put it. The animated film grossed $13M yesterday, which is the highest grossing third Wednesday ever for an animated film. Some reports are pointing towards an abundant amount of repeat customers.
The Pixar film also just crossed the $400M mark, after just 13 days in release. This means that “Inside Out 2” has now made $44M more than the 2015 original grossed in its entire run. It’s also at $836M worldwide, and will soon surpass the original’s $850M tally.
By Sunday, “Inside Out 2” will become the fastest animated film to reach the $1B mark in box-office history, either 16 or 17 days depending on how the weekend goes. It might even beat the newly released “A Quiet Place: Day One” for top spot at the weekend box-office.
What to make of these insane numbers? We knew “Inside Out 2” was going to be a hit, but on this level? Some kind of demon sorcery is going on here, or maybe it’s just the recent heat wave that’s migrated an unusually higher number of people into buying a movie ticket at air-conditioned movie theaters nationwide. Whatever it is, Hollywood must be thanking its lucky stars that there’s a cultural movie event going on right now.
