If you thought the ‘Shrek’ franchise was DOA, think again. It seems as though a fifth film is definitely in the works over at DreamWorks.
In an interview with Collider, Eddie Murphy, who plays Donkey, says that not only is ‘Shrek 5’ currently in production, but it’s coming out in 2025.
We started doing [Shrek 5] 4 or 5 months ago. I did this, I recorded the first act, and we'll be doing it this year, we’ll finish it up […] I think it's coming out in 2025.
I would imagine the whole crew will be back for this one, and that includes Murphy, Mike Myers, Antonio Banderas and a newly unretired Cameron Diaz.
The ‘Shrek’ franchise really ran its course after the second film. They somehow milked it into four movies, the last one being 2010’s “Shrek Forever After.” If you remember, the first two movies actually competed in official competition at Cannes. That was then, this is now.
