I’ve been saying, for a few months now, that Matt Reeves’ “The Batman: Part II” was going to be shooting in “early 2025,” more specifically in February or March. Regardless, it’s good to have Alfred himself confirm the production start.
Andy Serkis is telling Popverse that the “early 2025” start date is indeed accurate:
Basically, I know nothing about the movie other than that I’ve just found out that we’re probably likely to be starting filming early next year.
However, as of this publishing, Reeves’ script, which has been through a few drafts, has yet to be finished. DCU head James Gunn recently stated that the script would be submitted “when Matt thinks it’s ready.” Here’s Serkis explaining the delays and how he has no idea what the story is about:
I know that Matt [Reeves] is working really hard on the script. Matt Reeves being Matt Reeves, the extraordinary filmmaker that he is, I can only assume that it’s going to be another brilliant script, because I thought what he did with that first film was pretty amazing. I loved working with Rob Pattinson, and I really look forward to playing Alfred once more.
Reeves is taking his time with this one, and for good reason. There’s no rush, next year is especially going to be an important one for Gunn’s DCU with “Superman: Legacy” set for summer release. There’s also another DCU Batman movie rumored to shoot in late 2025, that would be Andy Muschietti’s “The Brave and the Bold.”
Expected to return for “The Batman: Part II” are Zoë Kravitz, Andy Serkis, Jeffrey Wright, and Colin Farrell. We’re also most likely going to witness a meatier role for Barry Keoghan’s Joker — he only showed up for a few seconds in the first one. DP Greig Fraser is also confirmed for the sequel.
As it happens, “The Batman” was the last time we saw Robert Pattinson onscreen. He hasn’t appeared in any movie since. He’ll likely be doing lots of press for Bong Joon-ho’s “Mickey 17” in January and then will be headed to London, in February or March, to shoot the ‘Batman’ sequel.
“The Batman – Part II” is scheduled to hit theaters October 2, 2026.
