Lee Sung Jin has turned in the scripts for the second season of Netflix/A24’s “Beef” and they are ready to start production by late summer or early fall. It also looks like it’s being turned into an anthology series with a completely different cast being assembled for this sophomore outing.
Deadline is reporting that Carey Mulligan and Oscar Isaac are set to star in the new season. They replace the originally rumored Jake Gyllenhaal and Anne Hathaway. No word yet on whether Charles Melton, Cailee Spaeny have accepted their offers to star as the opposite couple.
Last year’s highly entertaining “Beef” tackled a road-rage episode that lead to a sprawling, and totally unhinged, feud between a struggling contractor (Steven Yeun) and a successful entrepreneur (Ali Wong). Insiders say the second season will, again, revolve around two feuding couples.
“Beef” was a critically acclaimed series that won eight Prime Time Emmys, one for Outstanding Limited Series or Anthology Series, the two leads, Best Directing, and more. It’s no surprise that movie stars have shown high interest in this series. In a way, “Beef” has the potential to turn into a similar success as Mike White’s HBO juggernaut “The White Lotus.”
