Brad Pitt’s Formula One movie has set up a summer 2025 date, with Apple partnering with Warner Bros. on a wide theatrical release that will include IMAX showings.
The still-untitled movie, rumored to be called “Apex,” will hit theaters on June 27, 2025. The deal with Warner Bros will guarantee a theatrical bow of at least 30 days, if not longer. Pitt stars in an ensemble that includes Damson Idris, Kerry Condon, Javier Bardem, Tobias Menzies, Sarah Niles, Kim Bodnia and Samson Kayo.
A recent Puck report from Scott Mendelson hinted that, most likely due to delays and reshoots, “Apex” has had its budget balloon to well over $300 million.
The film stars Pitt as a driver who comes out of retirement to mentor a younger driver and take his final stab at glory on the track as the younger underling’s teammate.
It sounds like “Top Gun: Maverick,” but with race cars and Pitt instead of Cruise. Might as well recycle the same formula that brought you great success in 2022. I have some faith in this film, but with a budget that keeps spiking, it now needs to be this incredible commercial success. Apple/Warners are banking hard on European audiences who are much more familiar with F1 than U.S. moviegoers.
For “Apex,” Kosinski and his crew developed the smallest moveable 6k camera ever designed to take the viewer into the cockpit. The tech being utilized in this film has never been used before if a motion picture.
Before “Top Gun: Maverick,” Kosinski was mostly known for directing the Tom Cruise starring sci-fi film “Oblivion,” “Tron: Legacy” and “Only the Brave.” He’s now become one of the most sought-after blockbuster filmmakers in the industry. And yet, people tend to forget that Kosinski released the nearly unwatchable “Spiderhead” on Netflix, the same year as ‘Maverick.’
