Last October, I reported that filmmaker Gregg Araki, one of the main voices of the ‘90s New Queer Cinema movement, was working on a new film.
Here’s an update. Variety is reporting that Araki is set to direct “I Want Your Sex,” which will star Olivia Wilde. The film is based on an original script penned by Araki and Karley Sciortino (“Slutever,” “Now Apocalypse”) which “blithely explores desire, domination and fantasy”.
When fresh-faced Elliot lands an exciting job for renowned artist, icon and provocateur Erika Tracy (Wilde), his fantasies come true as Erika taps him to become her sexual muse. But Elliot soon finds himself out of his depth as Erika takes him on a journey more profound than he ever could have imagined, into a world of sex, obsession, power, betrayal and murder.
Production is set to begin this summer in Los Angeles. This will be Araki’s first film since 2014’s underrated “White Bird in a Blizzard.” H’s been mostly dabbling in episodic TV these last few years (“13 Reasons Why”, “Dahmer”) and created his own series (2019’s “Now Apocalypse”),
According to Araki, although somewhat different from his cult classics, “The Doom Generation” (1995) and “Nowhere” (1997), and “Mysterious Skin” (2004), this new project should be “cut from the same cloth” as those three films.
