A second trailer for “A Quiet Place: Day One” has been released.
Here’s what I wrote about the film on 02.07.24:
“A Quiet Place” (2018) was a great directorial effort from John Krasinski. It even made my top 10 list that year. The second one was passable, which leads us to ‘Day One’ — a spin-off that leads us back to when the alien invasion started.
The film, written and directed by “Pig” helmer Michael Sarnoski is based on an original story by Krasinski. It stars Lupita Nyong’o (great actress), Joseph Quinn, Alex Wolff and Denis O’Hare. However, Djimon Hounsou reprises his role from “A Quiet Place: Part II,” where he starred alongside Cillian Murphy.
When the project was announced last year, it felt like an odd match in having Sarnoski helm this franchise film, especially as he was just coming off directing one of 2021’s best-reviewed films. Hopefully, he gives us something fresh and exciting.
According to Deadline, take this leak with a grain of salt, early footage of Joseph Quinn in the film reportedly “blew away” execs at Paramount. However, the film is said to be “suspenseful” and “touching,” according a test screening reaction via popular YouTuber Critical Overlord.
The test screening viewers apparently were “caught off-guard by how the focus human story between Lupita and Quinn’s characters completely wrapped” them in and had them “invested [in the movie] the entire time.”
“The film leans more on the drama while still weaving the horror into it, similar to the first two films in the franchise, but maybe even more so this time around with that drama aspect.”
The viewer also praised Quinn’s portrayal of Eric. The participants of the test screening were in agreement that the actor did a “spectacular job” in the film. “Quinn and Lupita just play off of each other very well,” said the viewer.
However, some felt that the “ending was rushed” and that the pacing was a “hit or miss.” Regardless, the audience at the screening “seemed to be in agreement with overall quality and were really impressed with Quinn.”
‘A Quiet Place: Day One’ is scheduled to be released in theaters on June 28, 2024. The movie is Sarnoski’s second feature film after directing the critically-acclaimed Nicolas Cage-starrer ‘Pig.’
