UPDATE: Michelle Yeoh is set to lead the cast of “Blade Runner 2099.” Yeoh has signed on for a secretive role in the forthcoming Prime Video series which just started filming in Europe.
EARLIER: The “Blade Runner” limited series spin-off, “Blade Runner 2099,” is still happening. Jonathan Van Tulleken was recently confirmed as director of the limited series. Silka Luisa (“Shining Girls”) is still the writer, creator and showrunner.
According to Deadline, Tullkenen came on board to replace Jeremy Podeswa (“Game of Thrones”). The reason for Podeswa’s departure was noted as a “scheduling conflict” due to the WGA and SAG strikes. Tullkenen directed the first two episodes of FX’s acclaimed “Shogun”. His other credits include “The Changeling,” “Upload,” “Trust” and “Wonderdate.”
Daniel Richtman has now revealed plot details for “Blade Runner 2099,” which is expected to start production very soon …
In Los Angeles 2099, Cora lived her entire life on the run, a chameleon forced to adopt numerous identities. To secure a stable future for her brother, she assumes one final identity and is forced to partner with Olwen, a Blade Runner who’s confronting the end of her life. The two are pulled into a widening conspiracy that poses an existential threat to a city that’s fighting to be reborn.
“Blade Runner 2099” is the same series that Ridley Scott was supposed to direct — he’s now listed only as an executive producer. No casting announcements have been made. No release date either. What are they waiting for?
