As reported by Bloomberg, “Finding Nemo” and “The Incredibles” reboots are being considered as part of a strategy by Pixar president Jim Morris to revitalize the flagging animation company. No new original ideas and just rehashed old ones.
It’s no secret that Pixar’s been struggling after more than two decades of box office dominance. The piece goes on to state that the animation house is actually considering “rebooting or revisiting a bunch of their storied successes in a hope to bank on existing fans.” Correct me if I’m wrong, but didn’t Pixar recently promise to focus on more “original” stories?
There’s been a ton restructuring going on at the company which recently laid off 14% of its employees as part of Disney’s cost-cutting measures. It was the biggest restructuring in Pixar's history. They’re mightily struggling. Gone are the glory days of artistic triumph that led to landmarks such as “Toy Story,” “WALL-E,” “Ratatouille,” and “Up!”
Fixing Pixar should be top priority at Disney, but I don’t believe this is the way to go. John Lasseter’s exit has hit them harder than they could have ever imagined. They do have this summer’s “Inside Out 2,” which still hasn’t screened for critics — Pixar can’t afford to have that one underperform and I don’t think it will, but there is definitely panic about what’s coming beyond that.
