MUBI has bought U.S. rights to Andrea Arnold’s “Bird.” This is the streamer’s third buy out of Cannes competition after “The Substance” and “The Girl with the Needle,” Arnold’s latest coming-of-age story follows a 12-year-old girl’s (Nykiya Adams) journey to self-acceptance in northern Kent. She copes with a tense relationship with her father, Bug (Barry Keoghan), and forms a friendship with a drifter named Bird (Franz Rogowski). I gave it a “B-” grade and called it Arnold’s weakest effort. It currently sits at 70 on Metacritic and 72% on Rotten Tomatoes.
