It’s time for our readers to weigh in on George Miller’s “Furiosa,” which is playing in theaters. What did you think? I wrote about it at Cannes, and my verdict was “good, not great.” The film earned a “B+” CinemaScore rating and is at 79 on Metacritic.
The visuals are so unhinged and wild, and, at times, excessive. Some outstanding practical effects. The CGI is not as present as the trailer may have led you to believe. Miller caught lightning in a bottle with “Fury Road.” There was no way “Furiosa” could top that one. There was barely any fat in ‘Fury Road’. Whereas, “Furiosa” has fat and lots of bloat in its 148-minute runtime.
Sadly, “Furiosa” isn’t doing well at the box-office. It grossed a disappointing $7M last night. “Garfield” made more money *$8M) and might actually take the top spot this weekend. “Furiosa” is now looking at a $29M 3-day weekend. It’s carrying a $170M budget. Hope is that word of mouth spreads and Miller’s film will have some legs in the weeks to come.
