I’m pulling hard for George Miller’s “Furiosa” to exceed expectations at the box-office, it needs to make its money back for additional ‘Mad Max’ movies to ever get greenlit in the future — “The Wasteland” with Tom Hardy is something I’d love to see. However, based on what I’m hearing, it might be a very difficult weekend for the film.
The latest numbers. “Furiosa” grossed just $3.5M in Thursday previews. That’s the figure I got this morning. I’ll update this post if there’s any change, but it should be more or less that number. This has lowered its weekend estimates to a 3-day $30M opening, 4-day $35M.
The budget for “Furiosa” is said to be around $170M. Deadline previously reported that it needs to gross $440M worldwide to break even. Maybe word-of-mouth will spread in the coming days. Although not as acclaimed as 2015’s‘Fury Road,’ “Furiosa” is certainly well-reviewed — 79 on Metacritic and 88 on Rotten Tomatoes.
