I didn’t see this coming, but a handful of Hollywood actors have come out in defense of Kevin Spacey, they’re all saying he deserves to return to acting.
Liam Neeson, Sharon Stone, F. Murray Abraham and Stephen Fry have all given individual statements to The Telegraph in an attempted campaign to have Spacey mount a comeback in an industry that has shunned him ever since he was accused, in 2017, of sexual assault.
Statements of support were made by fellow actors to The Telegraph, prompted by the release of a Channel 4 documentary.
Stone: "I can't wait to see Kevin back at work. He is a genius. He is so elegant and fun, generous to a fault and knows more about our craft than most of us ever will."
Fry: Spacey has foten been "clumsy and inappropriate", but to "devote a whole documentary to accusations that simply do not add up to crimes... how can that be considered proportionate and justified?" Spacey's reputation was "wrecked", and "Surely it is wrong to continue to batter a reputation on the strength of assertion and rhetoric rather than evidence and proof? Unless I'm missing something, I think he has paid the price."
Neeson: "Kevin is a good man and a man of character. Personally speaking, our industry needs him and misses him greatly."
Spacey appears to have emerged from his legal woes unscathed. He’s won two separate cases against him, but nobody wants to hire him in Hollywood. His name has been tarnished. It’s led to the actor now starring in these micro-budget indies, such as “Peter Five Eight,” and “Control.”
These actors join Paul Schrader, who recently defended Spacey and even said he was willing to work with him on a Frank Sinatra biopic he’s written up, specifically with the actor in mind.
