Glen Powell, Margaret Qualley and Ed Harris are set to star in “Huntington,” for A24 and Studiocanal. John Patton Ford, who helmed the surprise 2022 indie hit “Emily the Criminal” is on-board as director, via Deadline.
“Huntington” is being described as a “raucous revenge thriller” about the heir to a multi-billion-dollar fortune who will stop at nothing to get what he deserves. An early summer shoot is being planned for the film.
Patton Ford’s original screenplay is inspired by Robert Hamer’s 1949 classic “Kind Hearts and Coronets,” starring Alec Guinness. Huntington “skews darker than the original caper classic but leans into witty and zingy banter,” according to Deadline.
One of the few success stories of 2022 indie cinema was the streaming success of the Sundance-premiered crime-drama “Emily the Criminal,” starring Aubrey Plaza. It peaked at the top of Netflix’s trending top 10 in early December of that year and remained high up there for a few weeks. The film was made on a budget of just $2 million dollars.
“Emily the Criminal” reminded me of the taut, tense and terrific thrillers of ‘70s American cinema. John Patton Ford’s film had social commentary to spare, and Plaza stole the show as a 30-something woman immensely desperate to escape the chains of capitalism.
