Another scoop coming in via one of my Netflix contacts.
When Netflix announced its 2024 slate in February, I was keeping an eye out for one particular film … Many of us have been wondering when Gareth Evans’ “Havoc” will be released. There’s been a lot of speculation about the reasons for its delay, with reshoots having occurred in early 2023.
It turned out that “Havoc,” yet again, was not included inside this year’s Netflix slate.
Here’s some good news, “Havoc” will finally see the light of day. I’m told a late 2024 launch is expected for the film. Don’t be surprised if this one shows up at TIFF in September, although maybe, and it’s a real possibility, Netflix doesn’t give “Havoc” a festival launch and just dumps it in the platform.
“Havoc” wrapped production in October 2021. It stars Tom Hardy, Forest Whitaker, Luis Guzman, and Timothy Olyphant, but the main reason for our anticipation is Evans. He’s the filmmaker behind the two ‘Raid’ films, 2018’s “Apostle” and the 2020 series “Gangs of London.” A filmmaker, known for a visceral and blood-soaked style, that’s well worth following.
There’s also been barely any details about the plot of “Havoc,” just a synopsis that was released before production began in July 2021.
After a drug deal goes awry, a detective must fight his way through a criminal underworld to rescue a politician's estranged son, while untangling his city's dark web of conspiracy and corruption.
In November 2022, Evans took to Instagram to clear up any speculation, saying that he was “still plugging away at it, doing all we can to make the film the best it can be,” but that in order to produce the film to their standards, it would have to involve “a small amount of additional photography that we are hoping to shoot soon”.
Some suspected that Evans, known for taking his meticulous time in the editing room, was doing just that: editing. There’s also the aforementioned reshoots, but we’re not entirely sure how extensive they were.
