Here’s a hot project that’s ready to go, and it’s shooting very soon. Six-time Oscar nominee Amy Adams is set to star in “At the Sea”, the latest film from Kornel Mundruczó, the Hungarian filmmaker behind “Pieces of a Woman” and “White God.” Kata Wéber, who wrote Mundruczó’s best films, will be penning the screenplay.
Per the producers, the story follows the life of a woman who, after a long rehabilitation, returns to her family at their beach holiday home where she has to readjust to the complicated life she left behind. Now she is forced to face the following next chapter of her life without the career that gave her fame, fortune and, most importantly, identity.
Production is set to begin in June in Boston. Mundruczó is a Cannes regular so don’t be surprised if this one shows up on the Croisette in 2025. As much as I really liked “White God,” I was equally impressed by “Pieces of A Woman” which had the misfortune of being released during the pandemic in 2020 — it featured Vanessa Kirby’s best performance.
I was less taken by Mundruczó’s other films which include “Jupiter’s Moon,” “Evolution” and “Tender Son.” He’s a hit or miss director, but is, on a technical level, incredibly gifted. He just needs the right screenplay. Hopefully, “At the Sea” is just that. Adams’ involvement surely helps as well.
