Sometimes a simple retweet says a whole lot.
Nancy Sinatra reposted a tweet on X which seems to disapprove of casting Leonardo DiCaprio as her father Frank Sinatra & Jennifer Lawrence as his wife Ava Gardner in Maritn Scorsese’s biopic.
As mentioned earlier in the week, the Sinatra family estate had blocked Scorsese from making a biopic back in 2014, looks like they're still not interested. I’m not sure how Scorsese would manage to convince them today.
In 2017, Scorsese had exited the Sinatra project. “We can’t do it,” Scorsese told The Toronto Sun. “I think it is finally over. [Sinatra’s estate] won’t agree to it. Open it up again and I’m there.”
Scorsese hoped to make a warts and all portrait of both the singer’s highs and lows, focusing on his failed marriage with Gardner. This means the film would take place between 1950-1957. Sinatra’s career was in the dumps by that point. He ended up finding salvation, and a major comeback, by eventually starring in the hit film “From Here to Eternity.”
Sinatra’s lows proved to be a sticking point with Nancy and sister Tina. “Certain things are very difficult for a family, and I totally understand,” Scorsese said. “But if they expect me to be doing it, they can’t hold back certain things. The problem is that the man was so complex. Everybody is so complex – but Sinatra in particular.”
Hey, at least Scorsese is definitely shooting his Jesus movie, with Andrew Garfield and Miles Teller, this fall. That one has the full and unequivocal approval of the Vatican.
