Earlier in the week, Disney CEO Bob Iger revealed that he had “killed a few projects” that Disney didn’t believe warranted a green light. Could one of those projects have been the live-action adaptation of “The Sword in the Stone”?
Director Juan Carlos Fresnadillo (“28 Weeks Later”) was attached to direct the live-action version of “The Sword in the Stone”, but he’s now telling Collider that Disney has delayed the project indefinitely, and he’s rather frustrated about it:
I was attached a long time ago, and I prepped a lot for Disney for that movie. I don’t know exactly what happened, but the studio decided to hold the project. So right now it’s in a holding situation, and I don’t know what’s going to happen, to be honest. But I think it’s a great story. I would be so keen to make it if they decided to greenlight the project.
This latest development comes just a day after we learned that Sarah Polley had dropped out of directing the live-action “Bambi” remake for Disney.
Regardless, Disney still has “Snow White” (‘25), “Lilo & Stitch” (‘24) and “Mufasa” (‘24) ready to go. Also in development are live-action remakes of “Moana”, “The Hunchback of Notre Dame”, “The Aristocats”, “Hercules”, and “Robin Hood”. Which of these gets the boot next?
